WARRENSBURG, Mo. – In Arkansas Tech's final contest of the Peggy Martin Challenge on Saturday, the Tech Golden Suns dropped a five-set thriller to the Newman Jets (25-21, 17-25, 30-28, 18-25, 17-15). Despite the loss, Tech's 76 kills are the most in a match since Nov. 12, 2011.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, Newman (9-3) took a commanding lead on a 6-0 run, and the Golden Suns were unable to even the score as the Jets took the lead with a four-point win.
- Arkansas Tech (6-6) answered with a 25-17 win in set two, after the Golden Suns posted a .441 attack percentage. Amanda Milnick led the way with five of Tech's 17 kills in the set.
- The Golden Suns recorded 19 kills in the third game, but Newman took the set with 23 kills and a .304 hitting percentage.
- Down 2-1, Tech opened the fourth set with five consecutive points to force a Newman timeout. The Golden Suns maintained a lead of at least three for the rest of the set, ending on a 4-1 run to tie the match.
- Newman took the early lead in the final set of play and eventually reached match-point at 14-11. Arkansas Tech responded with four straight points to take a 15-14 lead, but the Jets took the final three points to claim the victory.
NOTABLES
- Tech hit .293 for the match, the second highest attack percentage this season.
- Milnick and Kenzie Dozier each finished with a team-high 17 kills, while Milnick hit .516 with just one error. Milnick also added 28 assists and eight digs.
- Hunter Eshnaur posted 16 kills and 16 digs to earn her eighth double-double of the season.
- Sarah Rosinke picked up her third double-double of the season, getting a team-high 31 assists to go with 10 digs.
- Madison Nagel tied a season-high with 25 digs in the loss, while Matti Dix added 20.
