GOLDEN SUNS FINISH SERIES SWEEP OF UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark.Jalissa Gum fired a three-hit shutout in the opening game, striking out ten while hitting a pair of two-run homers, while Destiny Crumpley turned in a 4-for-4 performance with four RBIs in the nightcap to lead the No. 5 Arkansas Tech Golden Suns softball team (36-3, 26-2 Great American Conference) to a pair of wins over Arkansas-Monticello on Sunday, winning the opener 7-0 before taking a 6-3 decision in the finale.

  • The Golden Suns return home for a four-game set with Southern Arkansas this Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9. Friday's games are set for a 3 p.m. start while Saturday's games begin at noon.

  • Hill went from first to third on a sacrifice bunt setting up the game-tying single by Vasquez in the fourth.
  • Vaughan remained perfect on the win after scattering seven hits over seven innings, allowing three runs, two of which were earned. The sophomore walked one and fanned three.
  • Crumpley had a monster game, going 4-for-4, with one homer and four RBIs. Gum and Hill also added two hits, with Hill hitting her fourth home run of the season.  
  • With the win, the Golden Suns have clinched a berth in the upcoming Great American Conference championship tournament in Bentonville.
