GOLDEN SUNS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER WITH MULERIDERS

RUSSELLVILE, Ark. – The No. 5 Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (37-4, 27-3 Great American Conference) got a dominating performance from Jalissa Gum in a 2-0 game one win, but dropped the second game of the doubleheader 7-5 in a back-and-forth battle against No. 23 Southern Arkansas (32-5, 24-5 GAC) Friday afternoon at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.

  • The Golden Suns and Muleriders will face off in a second doubleheader tomorrow for "Pack the Bern" day at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex. Festivities for "Pack the Bern" begin at 11 a.m. and first pitch for the opening game is slated for noon.

  • Jalissa Gum put together one of her best starts of the season, as she pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just one hit with four walks and struck out 14 batters, the second most she had recorded in an outing this season.
  • Gum held Southern Arkansas, the 12th-best scoring offense in Division II (6.94 runs per game) to its first shutout of the season.
  • Gum was just one of two Suns with a hit, going 1-for-3 on the day with a 2-RBI triple in the third inning that proved to be the only scoring for the game.
  • Alex Edinger was the only other Sun with a hit, going 1-for-3 with a single. Janie Knowles and Gaby Vasquez scored the only runs in the game.
