Tyler Corley added 19 points, and
Nick Wayman scored 10 as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (15-14) fell 81-73 in the opening round of the Great American Conference basketball tournament to East Central (22-7).
HOW IT HAPPENED- ECU opened the game on an 11-0 run over the first 2:33.
- Tech came back, pulling to within three (14-11) with 12:25 remaining.
- Guillory drained a 3-pointer with 4:50 to play in the half that gave Tech its first lead of the contest at 24-23.
- Another 3-pointer by Wayman with 1:59 to play in the half gave Tech a nine-point (34-25) lead, its biggest lead of the contest.
- ECU pulled to within five (36-31) at the half.
- The Tigers opened the second half with seven straight points to claim a 38-36 lead.
- ECU then stretched its lead into double digits (61-49) with just over ten minutes to play.
- The ECU lead was stretched to as many as 13 points (74-61) with 3:49 to go, but Tech was able to pull to within six (79-73) with one minute to play.
- After the Wonder Boys got a stop in the final minute, Tech was unable to convert on its subsequent offensive possession and ECU ran out the clock for the win.
NOTABLES- After Tech held ECU to 44.8 percent shooting in the second half, the Tigers connected on 64 percent of their shots in the second half.
- ECU held a 37-35 rebounding advantage.
- Tech forced 21 ECU turnovers, committing only 16.
- The Wonder Boys blocked nine shots – four by Haughton and three by Wayman.
