WONDER BOYS RALLY FALLS SHORT AT HARDING 79-76

SEARCY, Ark. – The Wonder Boys had one last chance to pull even with the Bisons, but a last second shot fell short for Arkansas Tech (13-11, 8-10 Great American Conference) as they lost 79-76 at Harding (14-9, 13-5 GAC) Monday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Andrew Guillory opened the game with a three-pointer on the Wonder Boys first possession to jump up 3-0, but Harding quickly jumped ahead with a 20-3 run over the next six minutes to take a 20-6 lead.
  • The Bisons held a 28-18 lead over Tech with 7:24 to go in the first half, but the Wonder Boys climbed back into the game with an 11-0 run sparked by a three-pointer and a layup by Tyler Corley, a Tyrone Haughton dun, and closed out by a pair of Nick Wayman free throws to take a 29-28 lead with 4:41 to go in the first half.
  • The Bisons and Wonder Boys went back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, but on Tech's final two possessions, DeChriston McKinney got an offensive board and put back with 48 seconds left to tie the game at 33. On the defensive end, Bryson Fletcher picked off a pass near the top of the key and Corley found Andrew Guillory for a fast break dunk to give Arkansas Tech a 35-33 halftime lead.
  • HU held a 53-49 lead with 11:34 to go in the second half when it went on a 10-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 65-51.
  • With Harding leading 74-64 with 3:39 to play, the Wonder Boys chipped away at the Bisons lead with an 8-0 run started on a layup by Corley followed by a pair of buckets and a pair of free throws by Guillory to make it a 74-72 game with 2:12 left.
  • Tech had a chance to tie at the buzzer, but Corley's three-pointer fell short and Harding held on for a 79-76 win.
 
NOTABLES
  • Tech's backcourt duo on Corley and Guillory combined to score 51 of the Wonder Boys' 76 points. Guillory led all scorers with 26 points 9-of-19 shooting with a pair of threes and also went 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Corley finished with 25 points on 8-of-19 shooting with two three-pointers and went 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.
  • McKinney led the Wonder Boys on the glass with seven rebounds and Haughton tallied six blocked shots in the game.
  • The Wonder Boys finished the game shooting 40-percent (24-of-60) from the field, 23-percent from three (6-of-26), and 75-percent (22-of-29) from the free throw line.
 
NEXT UP
Arkansas Tech will return home for three of its final four games of the season, as the Wonder Boys will host Henderson State on Thursday, Feb. 18 in Tucker Coliseum for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
