GOLDEN SUNS DOMINATE IN FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns earned their first conference victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Northwestern Oklahoma State, 81-35. Tech dominated inside throughout the contest, outscoring NWOSU 46-4 in the paint.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arkansas Tech (2-1, 1-1 GAC) outscored the Rangers 22-2 in the first period, holding NWOSU to a 9.1 percent field-goal percentage. Tech also forced seven turnovers in the period.
  • Northwestern (0-4, 0-2 GAC) posted 16 points in the second quarter, but the Golden Suns increased their lead to 26 at halftime behind a 55.6 percent shooting effort from the floor. Eight different Golden Suns scored in the period.
  • The Golden Suns posted their lowest scoring quarter of the contest in the third period, but Tech held the Rangers to just seven points to take a 58-25 lead into the final 10 minutes.
  • Tech held a lead of at least 31 throughout the fourth quarter, including its largest lead of 46 twice.
  • Tech netted 47.7 percent of shots from the floor while limiting the Rangers to just 22.2 percent on field goals.
 
NOTABLES
  • The Golden Suns forced 27 turnovers, resulting in 26 points. Tech outscored Northwestern 14-5 on second-chance points and 14-0 on fast-break points.
  • 38 points for the Arkansas Tech came from the bench, including 10 from D'Rae Tullock.
  • 12 different players scored for the Golden Suns, with Kelsey McClure leading all players with 11 points. Tullock and Anissa Pounds followed with 10 each.
  • Cheyenne North finished with nine points in the victory, and she also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
NEXT UP
  • The Golden Suns will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22, as Tech hosts Oklahoma Christian for a non-conference battle in Tucker Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
