GOLDEN SUNS FALL IN FIRST CONFERENCE CONTEST

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Despite a 21-7 lead after the first quarter, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns dropped their first Great American Conference game of the season on Thursday, losing to Southwestern Oklahoma State. Calli White scored a game-high 19 points in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • White opened the contest with a three-pointer to give Tech (1-1, 0-1 GAC) the first lead of the game. The Golden Suns then extended their lead to 10-2 after another three by White, and a layup at the buzzer by Kelsey McClure gave Tech the 14-point lead after 10 minutes of play.
  • Tech claimed its largest lead of 19 in the second quarter after White's third triple of the first half, but a 22-6 run by Southwestern (2-1, 1-0 GAC) pulled the Lady Bulldogs within three points at the break.
  • The Golden Suns maintained a single-digit lead for the first 7:52 of the third quarter, but a 9-0 run by the Lady Bulldogs allowed SWOSU to tie the score. A three with 56 seconds left in the period gave Southwestern its first lead of the game.
  • In the fourth quarter, McClure stole the lead back for the Golden Suns on a layup, but SWOSU took its second lead with a layup on the very next possession. The Lady Bulldogs maintained their lead for the final nine minutes of the game, despite a last-second three-point attempt by White.
  • The Golden Suns netted just 24.4 percent of shots from the floor in the second half, including a 3-14 effort from long range. Tech secured 15 offensive rebounds in the half, but tallied just six second-chance points.
