GOLDEN SUNS DROP REGULAR SEASON FINALE TO OUACHITA

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Arkansas Tech volleyball fell in the regular-season finale on Thursday, dropping a three-set match to Ouachita. With the loss, the Golden Suns fall into a three-way tie for third in the Great American Conference's final regular-season standings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tech (21-11, 11-5 GAC) took six of the first seven points of the match and later took a 14-6 lead on a 6-0 run. Ouachita (22-7, 12-4 GAC) responded, however, with a 12-2 run to take an 18-16 lead in the first set.
  • A kill by Lauren Rodemers later in the first set put the Golden Suns ahead, 23-22, but the Tigers took four of the final five points to claim the first game, 26-24.
  • Arkansas Tech struggled on offense in the second set, recording just seven kills and 10 attack errors for a match-low -.097 hitting percentage. Ouachita committed just two attack errors to hit .353, eventually wining the set, 25-11.
  • Ouachita lead for the entire third set, claiming its largest lead of seven at 22-15. After a kill by Amanda Milnick and a block by Rodemers and Hunter Eshnaur, the Golden Suns cut the deficit to just four points. A service error and a ball handling error by Tech, however, gave the match to the Tigers.
 
NOTABLES
  • Tech finished the match hitting .104, while Ouachita posted a .342 attack percentage, the highest hitting percentage allowed by the Golden Suns this season.
  • The Golden Suns were led in kills by Eshnaur, who finished with nine.
  • Madison Nagel finished with a team-high 11 digs.
  • Milnick tallied 25 assists to go along with five kills.
  • Rodemers added six kills and led Arkansas Tech with a .500 hitting percentage and three total blocks.
 
NEXT UP
  • Arkansas Tech will begin play in the 2016 GAC Volleyball Championships on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs, Ark. The Golden Suns will be the fourth seed, taking on fifth-seeded Southwestern Oklahoma State.
