GOLDEN SUNS DEFEAT BLOSSOMS IN FOUR SETS

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Despite dropping the first set, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns claimed a four-set victory over the Arkansas-Monticello Cotton Blossoms on Tuesday night. Hunter Eshnaur led all players with 15 kills in the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Arkansas-Monticello (11-14, 7-6 GAC) took the first set, 25-22, with a .385 team hitting percentage. The Golden Suns were held to a match-low .100 hitting percentage with six attack errors.
  • Tech (19-10, 9-4 GAC) answered with a 12-1 run midway through the second set, followed by a 5-2 run to end the game. The Golden Suns tied the match after holding the Blossoms to just eight kills and 11 attack errors.
  • The Golden Suns dominated on offense in the third set, behind Eshnaur's eight kills on nine attacks. Tech finished with 19 kills, three errors and a .421 hitting percentage.
  • The final set featured five ties and five lead changes, before a 7-1 run allowed the Golden Suns to claim the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.
 
NOTABLES
  • Eshnaur finished with a match-high 16 points, tallying two assisted blocks to go along with 15 kills. She also added four digs.
  • McCall Wilkins led the Golden Suns with a .476 hitting percentage, racking up 10 kills and no errors on 21 attacks. Haley Owen followed with nine kills and just one error to hit .381.
  • Amanda Milnick posted a team-high 26 assists, while recording eight digs, five kills, three assisted blocks and two aces. Sarah Rosinke came off the bench for 15 assists.
  • Madison Nagel led Tech's defense with 16 digs, followed by Matt Dix with nine.
 
COACH BAYER SAYS
  • "We had a poor first set, but we were really able to come back and play well to finish off UAM."
  • "Our blocking was a big difference going into sets two and three. We were able to stop the ball at the net, and it really helped our defense out."
  • "Amanda Milnick is an incredible athlete. She can play defense, set, attack, serve, and she keeps getting better with experience. It has been really fun to watch her grow this year."
 
NEXT UP
  • The Golden Suns return to action on Thursday, Nov. 3, in Magnolia, Ark. Arkansas Tech will take on Southern Arkansas at 7 p.m.
  • Tech's final home match will be on Tuesday, Nov. 8, as the Golden Suns host Harding. The senior-night match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
