TECH FALLS TO BULLDOGS IN WEATHERFORD

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Arkansas Tech suffered just its second conference loss of the 2016 volleyball season on Saturday, as the Golden Suns dropped a three-set match to the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs. Set scores were 25-23, 25-15 and 25-22.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tech (15-8, 7-2 GAC) hit just .077 as a team in the first set, while the Bulldogs posted a .243 attack percentage.
  • The first game featured eight ties and four lead changes, but Southwestern (7-13, 5-4 GAC) took three of the final four points to take the 1-0 lead.
  • Southwestern's defense controlled the second set, limiting the Golden Suns to six kills and an attack percentage of -.033. The Bulldogs also recorded their highest hitting percentage of the match after hitting .303 in the set.
  • In the final set, Tech hit a match-high .310 with just three errors. After nine ties and five lead changes, however, the Bulldogs put the match away with four of the final six points.
 
NOTABLES
  • Tech finished the match with a .112 hitting percentage while the Bulldogs hit .252, the highest by a Tech opponent in a GAC match this season.
  • Hunter Eshnaur and Kenzie Dozier tied for a team-high seven kills for the Golden Suns.
  • Sarah Rosinke led Tech with 15 assists, followed by Amanda Milnick with 10.
  • Madison Nagel led all players with 14 digs.
  • SWOSU's Carly Zak, the conference leader in kills per set, finished with a match-high 19 kills.
  • With the loss, Arkansas Tech falls back into a tie for first in the GAC with Oklahoma Baptist.

  • "Southwestern Oklahoma had the momentum the entire match. We struggled offensively, and this led us to play catch-up. We never really went on any runs."
  • "Carly Zak was great today. She showed that she is one of the top players in the conference."
 
NEXT UP
  • The Golden Suns will return to Tucker Coliseum for their next four matches, beginning with a GAC contest against Oklahoma Baptist on Friday, Oct. 21. The match between the top-two teams in the conference is scheduled for 6 p.m.
