OKLAHOMA BAPTIST STEALS FIVE-SET THRILLER FROM TECH

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Despite a season-high 19 kills from Hunter Eshnaur and a career-high 10 kills from Allie Anderson, Arkansas Tech dropped a five-set thriller to Oklahoma Baptist on Friday. Set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set featured eight ties and four lead changes, but Oklahoma Baptist (14-10, 8-2 GAC) took the 1-0 lead with the help of a 7-3 run mid-way through the game.
  • Tech (15-9, 7-3 GAC) responded with a second-set victory, after Eshnaur and Anderson combined for 10 kills and no errors.
  • The third set mirrored the first, as neither team was able to establish a lead of more than four points. A small, 5-3 run proved to be the difference in the game, as the Lady Bison took a 24-20 lead and eventually took the set on a kill by Cadyn Laing.
  • The Golden Suns' best set offensively came in the fourth game, as Tech hit .257 as a team. Eshnaur once again led with six kills and no errors, and Tech grabbed its largest lead of the match at six points after a 7-0 run.
  • The Lady Bison took control of the final set early, scoring the game's first eight points. The Golden Suns pulled within five points on three separate occasions, but Oklahoma Baptist took the match on a kill by Nicole Fleitman.

NOTABLES
  • With the loss, the Golden Suns fall into a tie for the second in the Great American Conference standings.
  • The Golden Suns finished the match with 14 service errors, tied for the most in the match this season. Tech also failed to record a service ace for the first time this season.
  • Tech finished hitting .216, while holding Oklahoma Baptist to a .188 attack percentage.
  • Kenzie Dozier finished second on the team with 13 kills, trailing only Eshnaur's 19. Kaylee Konsella added a season-high 12 kills, while Anderson and McCall Wilkins followed with 10 each.
  • Madison Nagel led the Golden Suns with 24 digs in the loss, the seventh match this season with at least 20 digs.
  • Eshnaur added 17 digs to earn her 13th double-double of 2016. Amanda Milnick claimed her seventh double-double, tallying 23 assists and 15 digs.
  • Sarah Rosinke directed the offense with 32 assists.

COACH BAYER SAYS
  • "We played a great match tonight. It was a battle. With the two, first-place teams in the conference, I knew it was going to be a battle."
  • "I thought the biggest stat was that we missed 14 serves and did not have any aces. They were aggressive servers and were able to produce some aces against us, so I think serving was the main difference-maker in tonight's match."
  • "Allie Anderson came in off the bench and did a great job for us. She really lifted us, offensively."

NEXT UP
  • Tech returns to Tucker Coliseum on Saturday, Oct. 22, as the Golden Suns host Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m.
