GOLDEN SUNS ROLL TO SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN AGAINST HENDERSON

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Fatima Adams put together her seventh double-double of the season with 31 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns (12-2, 10-0 Great American Conference) to a 87-64 win over Henderson State (7-9, 6-4 GAC) in Arkadelphia for their sixth straight victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Suns jumped out to an early 18-8 lead by the 2:30 mark in the first quarter with Adams scoring Tech's first six points to go with a pair of three-pointers by Calli White and a trey from Anissa Pounds.
  • After taking a 21-13 lead into the second quarter, Tech opened the second period with a 9-3 run capped off on a layup in the paint by Anna Lea Little to take their largest lead of the half at 14 with 8:24 to go.
  • The Reddies cut the Golden Suns lead to eight on three different occasions, the last coming with 1:02 to go in the second quarter. However, the Golden Suns answered with layups by Aujana Dawkins with 46 seconds left and Pounds with two seconds to go to make it a 46-34 lead at halftime.
  • HSU kept the game to within 12 in the first five minutes of the third period, but Arkansas Tech ended the quarter with 17-9 run. The Golden Suns capped off the quarter with a three-point play by Kelsey McClure with 26 seconds left and an Anna Lea Little tip-in at the buzzer to take a 71-50 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • The Golden Suns offense was aggressive and getting to the charity stripe in the third quarter. Tech took advantage of the line by knocking down 9-of-10 free throw attempts for the period.
  • With 3:29 to go in the fourth quarter, Adams gave Tech its largest lead of the game on an offense rebound and put back with a foul, giving the Golden Suns an 87-59 lead.
  • Tech didn't score for the rest of the period, but held the Reddies to just five points in the last four minutes to give the Golden Suns the 87-64 victory.
 
NOTABLES
  • Adams put together one of her best performances of the season with, scoring her second-highest point total of the season with 31 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and 11-of-13 from the free throw line while also ripping down 14 rebounds.
  • Anissa Pounds was the only other Golden Sun to score in double-figures, tallying 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting and going 3-of-9 from behind the arc.
  • Bre Brooks had another efficient game from the floor as she dished out seven assists. It was her second-highest assist total of the season and has recorded 15 assists combined in her last two games.
  • The Arkansas Tech forwards frustrated Reddies leading scorer Dulincia Keener. The Golden Suns held Keener to her second-lowest point total of the season as she finished the game with just six points on 2-of-7 shooting from the field.
  • The Golden Suns had one of their best performances of the season from the free throw line, converting on 17-of-21 shots from the charity stripe.
  • Tech's defense held the Reddies to just 36-percent shooting from the field and 38-percent from behind the arc. The Suns defense was especially efficient in the second half, hold the Reddies to just 8-of-27 (29.6-percent) from the field and 3-of-10 (30-percent) from behind the arc.

  • The Golden Suns will return home Saturday, Jan. 23 to take on Arkansas-Monticello. The game will tip-off at 1 p.m.
