RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. —
Cody Jones tossed a gem, scattering nine hits over nine innings and allowing two runs, one earned while fanning six, leading the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys baseball team (30-19- 15-10 Great American Conference) to a 3-2 win over Harding (26-23, 17-10 GAC) in the two teams' regular-season finale on Sunday.
Harding took advantage of a first-inning error to put its first run of the game across the plate, but after the Wonder Boys loaded the bases in the third, Tech knotted the game on a sacrifice fly by
Bryan Heward.
In the fifth inning, Harding reclaimed the lead on an RBI single by Shane Kinnear, but Arkansas Tech would stage a two-out rally in the sixth, knotting the game on an RBI double by
Cole Fergus and then pulling ahead 3-2 on an RBI single by
Keenan Jumper.
The Bisons put runners on base in the seventh and eighth, but each time, Jones pitched out of the jam before setting down the Bisons in order in the ninth.
Jumper and
Rafiel Johnson had a pair of hits in the Wonder Boys' victory.
The Wonder Boys return to action this coming Saturday in the opening round of the Great American Conference championship tournament. The opponent and time is to be determined.
