TECH HOSTS HARDING FOR SENIOR NIGHT

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech men's and women's basketball teams will suit up for the final time this season at Tucker Coliseum, facing Harding Thursday evening in a Great American Conference doubleheader starting at 5:30.

The Golden Suns (19-5, 14-4 GAC) and Bisons (19-5, 15-3 GAC) are locked into the top two spots in the league standings with just two games to go, giving this game even more importance as the regular season winds down. Harding picked up a 74-61 victory at home in the two sides' first meeting of the season, building up a 13-point lead at the half and cruising on to the win. Tech picked up 16 points and five rebounds each from Anissa Pounds and Fatima Adams in the contest, both of whom continue to lead the Suns in scoring, Adams with a conference-best 21.3 points per game and Pounds at 13.3.

Tech has won four of its past six games despite dropping a pair last weekend during a roadtrip to East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma. The Golden Suns still lead the GAC in scoring at 74.8 points per game and field-goal percentage at 45.8 percent, and is second in the league and 29th in the country in scoring margin with a 12.5-point edge. Adams is top three in the conference in shooting percentage, rebounding and double-doubles, while Katrina Hayden's 4.1 assists is tops in the league as well.

The Bisons, which have won four straight over the Suns but only two in 30 tries in Russellville, won both its games last weekend to move back ahead of Tech in the standings. They are right behind Tech, averaging 73.0 points per game, and outrebound their opponents by 7.5 boards per game, the best number in the GAC and 16th in the nation. Arielle Saunders leads the way for the Bisons, averaging 16.3 points on 53.4-percent shooting and a league-best 11.3 rebounds per game. Montana Lewis puts up 11.1 points and 5.6 boards, while A'ndrea Haney enters with 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals. Lundon Williams and Correy Moyer each shoot better than 40 percent from deep, combining for 14.9 points per game.

The Wonder Boys (13-13, 9-9 GAC), winners of four of their last five, are making a push for a high seed in the GAC tournament. They currently sit in a tie for fifth, with a chance of moving up as high as third with a pair of wins this weekend and some help. They can help themselves out a lot against the Bisons (12-12, 10-8 GAC), who snagged an 89-80 win at home Jan. 22 in a game that Tech led inside 10 minutes to go. Tyler Friedel had the hot hand for Tech, hitting 8-of-11 from 3-point range for a game-high 24 points and collared 12 rebounds. D.J. Jethroe added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Mike Balogun chipped in with 12 points and four assists. The win was the second in a row over the Wonder Boys for Harding, which has dropped six of its last seven at Tucker Coliseum.

Tech, which earned a wild 77-76 comeback victory over Southeastern Oklahoma Saturday in which it hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final five seconds and saw Clarence Willard record the third triple-double in program history, has won 12 of the past 19 against the Bisons. They're led by Balogun's 14.3 points per game, with Willard putting up 9.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists each time out. Jethroe adds 9.3 points and a team-high 5.2 rebounds, while Friedel is shooting 40.0 percent from deep and chips in 9.2 points and 4.4 rebounds. As a team, the Wonder Boys average 70.1 points a game while giving up 71.0, with that scoring margin swinging to the positive side at 3.6 over the past five games. They're third in the GAC and 42nd in the nation with 8.8 triples per game, and hold opponents to a league-best 31.8 percent from deep.

Tech will need that defense against Harding, which hits 39.2 percent from 3 and averages 10.8 makes per game, seventh in the country. The Bisons put up 78.0 points per game and allow 73.2. They've lost three in a row and four of their past five after piling up a six-game winning streak. Individually, they're led by Andraz Kavas' 20.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Blake McNair puts up 12.9 points, 4.2 rebounds ,3.3 assists and hits 44.1 percent from 3-point range. Will Francis adds 9.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists to go along with a 42.3-percent mark from deep.

The games will be carried live on 100.9 (KWKK) in Russellville, with live video, audio and statistics available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
