GOLDEN SUNS RUSH THROUGH CRIMSON STORM

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Fatima Adams led four Golden Suns in double figures with 22 points as No. 20 Arkansas Tech (6-1, 4-0 Great American Conference) cruised to a 90-63 victory over Southern Nazarene (2-3, 1-3 GAC) Saturday afternoon in Tucker Coliseum. Calli White and Anissa Pounds each added 16 points and Danielle Frachiseur came off the bench to score 13 points in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southern Nazarene grabbed the early 10-5 lead, making 4-of-5 shots from the field during the first two minutes of the game.
  • The Golden Suns took the lead back and never looked back as they went on an 18-2 run over the next 6:22 to make it 23-12 with 1:42 remaining in the quarter. White started the scoring barrage with a three-pointer and Adams added nine points during the stretch.
  • Adams put in a buzzer beating tip in on a White missed layup in the lane to go up 25-15 at the end of the first quarter.
  • After the two teams battled evenly through the first seven minutes of the second quarter, the Golden Suns closed out on a 9-2 run to make it a 52-32 lead with Kelsey McClure ending the run on back-to-back layups before SNU made a last second layup to make it 52-34 at the half.
  • Tech blew the game wide open in the third quarter, outscoring the Crimson Storm 28-12 in the period. 11 of the 28 points scored by the Golden Suns came from Pounds with three 3-pointers and Frachiseur added eight points.
  • The Golden Suns closed out the third quarter with a 13-4 run, sparked by two Pounds three-pointers and closed out by a White three-pointer to make it 80-46.
  • Tech's shooting went cold in the fourth quarter as the Golden Suns only managed to score 10 points on four made field goals, but still managed to hold the Crimson Storm to 17 points to come away with the 90-63 victory.

NOTABLES

  • Adams and White combined to score 22 of Tech's 25 points in the first quarter. Adams scored 14 points and White scored eight points.
  • 52 first half points tied a season-high for most points in the opening half. The last time ATU scored 52 points in the first half was in a 105-64 win over Northwest Oklahoma State back on Nov. 21.
  • The Golden Suns shot 45-percent (9-of-20) from behind the arc. Pounds and White combined to shoot 66-percent (8-of-12) from three, each going 4-for-6 for the game.
  • Frachiseur provided both a spark offensively and defensively off the bench for the Golden Suns. Frachiseur recorded a career-high five steals and managed to get to the free throw line early and often. Nine of her 13 points from the charity stripe, shooting 9-for-11 from the line in the game.
  • For the fifth time this season, Adams put together another 20-plus point performance, scoring 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting and 4-of-5 from the free throw line while tying the team-lead for the game with eight points. 18 of her 22 points came in the first half.

WHO'S NEXT

  • Arkansas Tech has just one game remaining in 2015 as the Golden Suns will travel to Springfield, M.O. on Dec. 15 to take on Drury in non-conference action to close out non-conference play.
