D.J. Jethroe turned in a 20-point, eight-rebound performance,
Mike Balogun added 14 points, while
Nick Wayman added 10 as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys (8-6, 4-2 Great American Conference) took advantage of timely shooting in a 76-58 win over Northwestern Oklahoma (2-11, 1-5 GAC) on Thursday.
Defense led the way in the opening minutes of the game, with the Rangers inching to a 5-4 lead with 13:21 to play in the contest. However, after a 3-pointer by NWOSU's Darrian Dempsey tied the contest at 8-8 with 12:26 to play, the Wonder Boys used a 15-1 run to push ahead by 14 points (23-9) with 7:30 to play and pushed their lead to as many as 21 points (41-20) with 2:17 to go in the half.
The Rangers finished the second half on a 7-0 run to pull to within 41-27.
The Wonder Boys held the Rangers at bay through the entirety of the second half, twice leading by as many as 22 points.
Jethroe's 20 points and eight boards led all players. The Wonder Boys held a 41-38 advantage on the rebounding glass, while connecting on 29-of-39 free throws, including 20-of-22 in the second half. Jethroe was 10-of-14 from the charity stripe.
