TECH BASKETBALL RETURNS TO ACTION THURSDAY

ALVA, Okla. -- The Arkansas Tech University men's and women's basketball teams will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 8, heading west for a Great American Conference doubleheader against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Golden Suns will tip at 5:30 p.m., while the Wonder Boys are slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip.

The games will be carried live on 100.9 FM (KWKK) in Russellville, with live video, audio, and statistics available at www.arkansastechsports.com.

The Golden Suns (10-1, 5-0 GAC) enter play ranked as high as No.17 nationally, garnering that ranking in the D2SIDA media poll, while checking in at No. 18 in the WBCA poll. Tech is off to a strong start at 10-1 overall, Fatima Adams has led the way, averaging 20.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, but with three players averaging in double figures and ten players averaging double-digit minutes per contest, the Golden Suns boast one of the deeper teams in recent memory.

The Rangers (3-8, 2-3 GAC), coached by former Wonder Boys letterwinner Eric Bozeman, have dropped four of their last five contests. NWOSU has picked up a pair of wins on league play, knocking off Southern Nazarene 79-57 on Dec. 4 and more recently beating Ouachita Baptist 66-64 in Arkadelphia. The Rangers are 2-2 at home this season, while posting a 1-5 mark on the road.

The Wonder Boys (7-6, 3-2 GAC) seeks their first road win of the 2014-15 campaign. Having posted a 6-2 record at Tucker Coliseum and a 1-1 record in neutral-site contests, the Wonder Boys are 0-3 in true road games this season. Arkansas Tech boasts a true deep bench, with six players averaging seven or more points per contest, and nine players averaging 15 minutes or more per game. A resurgent Darrick Little has led the way for the Wonder Boys since the holiday break, averaging 15.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.

NWOSU (2-10, 1-4 GAC) enters the game with a record that does not match its level of talent. Four the Rangers' losses have come by ten points or less, including an overtime heartbreaker against Southeastern Oklahoma on Dec. 13 against Southeastern Oklahoma. Three NWOSU players average 10 or more points per contest.

After Thursday's doubleheader at NWOSU, the Wonder Boys and Golden Suns will return to the greater Oklahoma City area for another GAC doubleheader on Saturday against Southern Nazarene. Those games will tip at 1 and 3 p.m.
