WONDER BOYS, GOLDEN SUNS RETURN TO TUCKER COLISEUM SATURDAY

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech men's and women's basketball teams will both be looking to bounce back from a loss as the second half of the Great American Conference season gets underway Saturday afternoon with Henderson State's visit to Tucker Coliseum.

The No. 8/12 Golden Suns (14-1, 9-1 GAC) suffered their first conference loss of the season Thursday at No. 23 Harding, and will try to kickstart another winning streak by completing the season sweep of the Reddies (6-10, 4-6 GAC) in a 1 p.m. tipoff. Tech turned back Henderson 70-56 in their first dust-up Dec. 6, which was its 14th win in their past 15 meetings. The Reddies haven't won a game at Tucker Coliseum since the 2006-07 season.

Henderson is on a two-game winning streak, and brings in one of the top scorers in the league in Aungelique Sledge, who is putting up 18.9 points per game. She poured in 21 during the first meeting, while Annie Thomas added 12 points and 11 rebounds, one of just three players to record a double-double against the Golden Suns this season. The Reddies are fifth in the GAC, averaging 66.4 points per game. They knock down 7.0 3-pointers per game, good enough for third in the conference, and hold opponents to a conference-low 27.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Tech continues to lead the GAC in scoring, putting up 79.2 points per game, 17.6 more than they allow, while knocking down 47.3 percent of their field goals. Fatima Adams leads the league in individual scoring with 21.0 points per game, and she put up 28 to go along with 12 rebounds in her first try against the Reddies. Katrina Hayden dumped in 14 points and dished out seven assists, while Jacinda Myers-Sanders added 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting.

The Wonder Boys (8-10, 4-6 GAC) saw their skid grow to four games with Thursday's loss to Harding, and look to turn things around against the Reddies (8-8, 5-5), who completed a second-half comeback to beat Tech 69-63 in December. That snapped a six-game winning streak in the series by Tech, which has won 14 of the past 16 between the two sides, and hasn't lost at home or been swept in the season series since the 2006-07 season.

Henderson has dropped five of its last seven, but toppled rival Ouachita Baptist 71-67 Thursday to knock the Tigers out of first place. The Reddies average 70.9 points per game while allowing just 69.6. They put up just over 19 attempts from deep per game and convert on 37.9 percent, the third-best average in the GAC. They also grab 7.9 steals and force 16.6 turnovers — second in the conference — per game. Henderson pushed four players into double figures in the first meeting against Tech, with Aaron Cooper and Kevin Kozan each hitting three 3-pointers to score 18 and 16, respectively.

Tech picked up 17 points out of D.J. Jethroe on a perfect shooting night — 6-of-6 from the field and 2-of-2 at the line — and Mike Balogun added 15 in the early-season loss to the Reddies. Balogun is the only Wonder Boy averaging double figures, at 13.9 points per game. Nick Wayman is at 9.9, Clarence Willard 9.2, Jethroe 8.6 and Tyler Friedel—who is coming off a 24-point night on 8-of-11 shooting from deep against Harding—averages 8.3.

The games will be carried live on 100.9 (KWKK) in Russellville, with live video, audio and statistics available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
