VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS PAIR AT UNION TRIMATCH

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSON, Tenn.Katie Huff notched double-digit kills inn both matches, going for 11 kills and hitting .667 against Union and posting 17 kills and hitting .480 against Trevecca Nazarene, while Madison Nagel had 16 digs in both matches, as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (10-5) swept to a pair of 3-0 wins over Union University (3-9) and Trevecca Nazarene (8-5) on Saturday.

"Our goal today was to not drop a set and play unified as a team," said Golden Suns head coach Kristy Bayer. "We accomplished both of those. Katie Huff worked hard offensively and was able to help our offense dominate today. Our blocking also improved today."

The Golden Suns were certainly dominant in the opener against Union, taking a 25-13, 25-19, 25-17 decision in the opener, and continued the momentum through the match with Trevecca Nazarene, winning 25-17, 25-12 in the opening sets before winning a narrow 27-25 decision in the third set.

Tech outhit Union .288 to .067 for the match, while hitting .476 in the third set. Emily Todd had nine kills hitting .412, while Sarah Bennett had eight kills with a .353 percentage.
Todd added six service aces, while Kaci Jackson turned in three as the Golden Suns combined for 12 aces in the match.

Sierra Nighswonger dished out 24 assists in the winning effort, while the Golden Suns held a 6-1 advantage in blocks.

In the nightcap, Kaylee Konsella hit .476 with 13 kills, Todd had a 11-kill performance, and Nighswonger dished out 26 assists. Todd added 10 digs in the double-double. Tech outhit TNU .305 to .298, hitting a match best .483 in the second set.  

Nagel added three service aces in the finale.

The Golden Suns return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 30, facing Cameron and Williams Baptist in a tri-match at Tucker Coliseum. The Golden Suns square off against Cameron at noon, while Cameron faces Williams Baptist in a 2 p.m. contest, before Tech closes with Williams Baptist at 4 p.m.
