WONDER BOYS MOVE INTO A TIE FOR NINTH AFTER SECOND ROUND AT NCAA DII CENTRAL/MIDWEST REGIONAL

Tech improved eight strokes in the second round.

EUREKA, MO.— Jason Purdy led the way for the Wonder Boys again in the second round of the NCAA DII Central/Midwest Regional at Fox Run Golf Course, shooting a 74 (+2) for a tournament total of 147 (+3) and a tie for 12th as the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys moved into a tie for ninth after day two on Tuesday.

The Wonder Boys knocked off eight strokes as a team for a second-round total of 297 (+9). Only Missouri-St. Louis finished with a better second round score as they shot a 296 (+8). Tech is tied for ninth with the Great American Conference Champions of Henderson State. The Wonder Boys are 12 strokes back from Malone University who maintained their lead after day one. Michael Colgate of Nebraska-Kearney leads the tournament with a 140 (-4).

Senior Rowdy Garrett finished with a second-round score of 76 (+4) to sit in a tie for 26th, freshman Austin Smith fired a 76 (+4) as well to move into a tie for 49th, junior Alex Mahlik improved eight strokes on his first round to sit in a tie for 57th with a 73 (+1), and sophomore Brian Belz carded a 74 (+2) to improve 12 strokes in the second round to land in a tie for 90th.

The Wonder Boys will conclude the NCAA DII Regional Tournament tomorrow, May 6.
