JOPLIN, Mo. – Three-straight rounds in the red by the No. 13-ranked Arkansas Tech men's golf team propelled them to an impressive 19-stroke victory at the Missouri Southern Fall Invitational, played at the par-72, 6,842-yard Twin Hills Golf Club in Joplin.
FINAL RESULTS
Overall, the Wonder Boys finished 24-under par (840) with rounds of 8-under (280), 9-under (279) and 7-under (281). The next closest team to Tech, Henderson State, finished 5-under for the tournament. The top-four golfers in Tech's lineup all finished under par and inside the top-10.
Second-year golfer
Cameron Twynholm paced the team and went wire-to-wire, collecting his first individual medalist title. The Morpeth, United Kingdom native finished at 15-under par (201) and had rounds of 6-under (66), 5-under (67) and 4-under (68).
Twynholm led the field in birdies with 17, tied for the most eagles with one and had the fewest bogeys with just two. He would do most of his damage on par-5s as he went 9-under on such holes.
His 54-hole score of 201 ties a program record for the Wonder Boys with current teammate
Sebastien De Vooght, who shot 201 at Tech's most-recent tournament, the Skip Wagnon Invitational back in early October. At that same event, Twynholm was one stroke back of De Vooght and shot a 202.
Alongside Twynholm at the MSSU Fall Invitational were De Vooght,
Jacob Peetoom and
Alex Miller. Both De Vooght and Peetoom finished tied for third at 4-under (212) while Miller ended 1-under (215).
Nicholas Norris also competed for the second-straight tournament while
Ben Braswell and
CJ Guthrie made their season debuts as individuals.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for their final tournament of the fall, the Tulsa Cup. That event is being held at the Indian Springs Country Club in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma from Monday, October 26 – Tuesday, October 27.
