RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. —
Katrina Hayden scored 19 points, leading a cast of four Arkansas Tech players to score in double figures as the No. 24 Golden Suns (6-0, 1-0 GAC) rolled to an 84-54 win over Ouachita Baptist (3-4, 0-1 GAC) on Thursday evening at Tucker Coliseum.
The Golden Suns and Lady Tigers battled through the first four minutes of the game, with the Tigers claiming a 7-6 lead after OBU's Breanna Harris converted a three-point play. However, Tech went on a 14-0 run to jump ahead by 13 (20-7) with 13:03 to go, and the run would eventually grow to 22-4 as the Golden Suns claimed a 17-point (28-11) lead with 6:22 to play in the half.
The Tech lead grew to as many as 23 points (38-15) down the stretch, as the Golden Suns took a 22-point (40-18) lead into halftime.
Tech forced 17 OBU turnovers in the first half, while committing only two.
Arkansas Tech continued to extend its lead through the second half, leading by as many as 34 points (77-43) with 3:24 to play, and cruising to the victory.
Mary Crow and
Anissa Pounds both scored 13 points for the Golden Suns, while
Fatima Adams turned in a 12-point, 13-rebound performance.
Tech outshot OBU 32.1 to 43.9 percent, going for 55.6 percent in the second half. The Golden Suns held a 49-35 advantage on the rebounding glass, while forcing 28 turnovers and committing only 13. Tech racked up 13 steals, led by four from Pounds.
The Golden Suns dominated the paint, outscoring OBU 47-20, while holding a 36-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
Arkansas Tech returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 6, facing Henderson State in Arkadelphia. A 1 p.m. tip-off is scheduled. The game will be carried live on KWKK-FM (100.9) in Russellville, with live video and statistics available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
