RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. —
Anissa Pounds turned in a 21-point, seven-rebound effort, leading a cast of seven Arkansas Tech players to reach double figures as the No. 17 Golden Suns (9-1, 4-0 Great American Conference) rolled to a 97-52 win over defending Great American Conference champion Southwestern Oklahoma (2-7, 0-4 GAC) on Wednesday at Tucker Coliseum.
Fatima Adams and
Breonna Johnson both turned in 13-point efforts,
Fabiana Monte and
Caroline Eubanks both added 11-point efforts, while
Jacinda Myers-Sanders and
Katrina Hayden both added ten points apiece in the victory.
The Golden Suns scored the first five points of the contest and never looked back, opening up a double-figure lead (15-4) with 16:21 to play in the opening half and racing out to a 34-point (56-22) lead at the half.
The second half saw more of the same, with the Golden Suns' lead reaching as many as 48 points (94-46) with 2:45 to play.
Tech held SWOSU to just 25.0 percent shooting from the floor, including a 17.1 percent clip in the first half. Meanwhile, the Golden Suns shot 54.4 percent. Tech held a 59-35 advantage on the rebounding glass, a 44-24 advantage in points on the paint, a 10-2 advantage in fast-break points, and a 41-15 advantage in bench points. Pounds, Myers-Sanders, Hayden, and Eubanks had seven rebounds apiece to lead the Golden Suns. Hayden dished out four assists, while Johnson and
Danielle Frachiseur added three steals.
