WONDER BOYS, GOLDEN SUNS RETURN TO ACTION WEDNESDAY

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys and Golden Suns basketball teams will take the court at Tucker Coliseum for the final time in 2014 Wednesday night, hosting Southwestern Oklahoma in a Great American Conference doubleheader.

The Golden Suns will play at 5:30 p.m. while the Wonder Boys will play at 7:30.

The No. 17/20 Golden Suns (8-1, 3-0 GAC) will take on the Bulldogs (2-6, 0-3) looking to get back on a winning streak after seeing their eight-game stretch to start the season snapped Sunday against Benedict. SWOSU brings a competitive 67.0 points scored per game in the 5:30 p.m. contest, along with the top 3-point defense and second-best free-throw percentage in the conference. The Bulldogs offer up a balanced attack on both ends of the court, with Jennifer Williams (13.1 ppg), Chelsea Bates (12.6), Jessica Penner (11.5) and Kimmi Swatzky (11.0) all averaging double digits. In addition, Bates, Penner and Korina Chapman all rank in the top nine in the GAC in rebounding.

Tech continues to lead the league, scoring 79.7 per game. Its 18.6 scoring margin is also tops. Junior Fatima Adams continues to average a double-double, with 22.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Katrina Hayden (12.9 ppg) and Anissa Pounds (12.8) both join Adams in the top 12 in scoring in the GAC, while senior Jacinda Myers-Sanders is coming off her best game of the season, shooting 7-for-8 from the field for 17 points, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals against Benedict.

The Wonder Boys (5-5, 1-2 GAC) will go for a second straight victory after toppling Southern Arkansas in a thriller Saturday, facing the Bulldogs (6-3, 1-2), who they've beaten eight of the past nine tries. Tech has been tightening up on defense recently, allowing just 66.8 points per game to the past four opponents. They pushed five players into double figures against the Muleriders, with senior Mike Balogun leading the way with 22.

SWOSU is the top scoring defense in the conference, and one of the league's best rebounding teams. Martell Collins is fourth in the GAC in both scoring (18.2) and rebounding (7.7).

The doubleheader action will be carried live on KWKK FM 100.9, with live video and stats available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
