Fatima Adams turned in a 21-point effort with nine rebounds,
Katrina Hayden added 18 points with eight assists, while
Anissa Pounds chipped in 17 points as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team (1-0) rolled to a 100-40 win over Ecclesia College (5-6) in the Golden Suns' season opener on Monday night at Tucker Coliseum.
"It was a good opener," said Golden Suns head coach
Dave Wilbers. "We had a really good crowd tonight and I'd like to thank everyone who came out to make this such a good opener for us."
The Golden Suns started the game on a 23-2 run and never looked back, racing out to a 50-16 halftime lead. The second half saw more of the same as the Golden Suns led by 50 or more points through the bulk of the second half.
Tech held a 44-19 advantage on the rebounding glass, a 60.6 to 23.6 percent advantage in shooting, while forcing 34 turnovers by the Royals.
Tech held a 49-10 advantage in points off turnovers, a 15-2 advantage in second-chance points, a 27-0 advantage in bench points, a 66-6 advantage in points in the paint, and a 28-0 advantage in fast-break points.
Arkansas Tech placed five players in double figures, adding 10-point performances by both
Jacinda Myers-Sanders and
Fabiana Monte to the tally.
Breonna Johnson was solid, with seven points and five assists, while
Shaunice Robinson had five assists off the bench.
Adams and Myers-Sanders led Tech with four steals apiece.
The Golden Suns will return to action this Friday, Nov. 21, hosting No. 22 Delta State at Tucker Coliseum. A 5:30 p.m. tip-off is scheduled, with the game carried live on 100.9-FM (KWKK) in Russellville.
