Central Baptist scored the first points of the game on a 3-pointer, but the hosts responded with a 13-0 run, taking the lead for good on a bucket from Adams just 2:14 into the contest. The Mustangs would get as close as down by three with 11:20 left in the opening half, but the Golden Suns would use defensive pressure to extend their lead to 48-32 at the break.
For the game, ATU grabbed 18 steals and forced an additional 12 turnovers out of Central Baptist, scoring 25 points off those giveaways. The hounding defense held the Mustangs to 34 percent shooting from the field, while Tech shot 50.7 percent, including 7-of-15 from behind the arc.
The Golden Suns kept that pace up in the second half, starting it on a tear that lasted nearly 12 minutes, over which they outscored the visitors 34-8.
Monte and Crow each added three steals to the defensive effort, as did
Breonna Johnson, who posted five assists to go along with her eight points on the afternoon. The Golden Suns limited themselves to just 11 turnovers.
Tech returns to action Monday, beginning its regular season with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Ecclesia College at Tucker Coliseum.?
