Brad Palmer enters into his third year as an assistant coach for the Golden Suns Basketball team.

Palmer is familiar face and no stranger to the sidelines inside Tucker Coliseum come basketball season as he spent seven seasons as an assistant coach for Wonder Boys basketball from 2010-2017. In that time, Palmer was an assistant under a pair of former head coaches, Doug Karlskint and Chad Kline.

In each of the first five years on staff, Palmer helped lead the Wonder Boys to either a GAC Regular Season Championship or a GAC Tournament Championship. Additionally, all those seasons resulted in a trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament as well. All told, during Palmer’s time on staff, the Wonder Boys won 144 games and had four years with 20 or more wins.

Palmer’s return to Tech in 2022 saw him shift over to the Golden Suns’ side of high-level basketball where he now assists Dave Wilbers, who will be entering his 18th season as head coach. In that time, the Golden Suns have remained one of the most successful women’s basketball programs in the country, winning 20 or more games nine times under Coach Wilbers.

The program, in recent history, has also brought home some championship hardware. Since the 2009-10 season, the Golden Suns have won either a conference regular season or tournament championship in eight times and have swept that feat in four of those years.

In that same time frame, the Golden Suns have advanced to eight NCAA Region Tournaments.

Following his time assisting the Wonder Boys, Palmer spent a year as an assistant at Russellville High School before taking over as head boy’s basketball coach at Atkins High School where he was for three years.

At Atkins, Palmer led the 2020 Red Devils to their best finish in over two decades, winning the district tournament championship and advancing to the regional tournament as a No. 1 seed for the first time. That same year, Palmer was named the 3A 4 Boys Basketball Coach of the Year.

He is married to his wife Sarah and the couple have three children, Gracie, Kayna Brooke and Cade.
