Kevin Wewers

Kevin Wewers enters into his first season as offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Arkansas Tech.

A native of nearby Scranton, Ark., Wewers’ return to the River Valley comes after a two-year tenure at the University of North Alabama. In his time at UNA, Wewers had roles as the tight ends coach, recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator.

Prior to UNA, Wewers had stints as an offensive analyst for a pair of Division I programs in Florida Atlantic University and the University of Kansas. He would spend the 2022 season at FAU and the 2021 and 2020 seasons at Kansas.

Wewers also has high-level experience at the NAIA level with a two-year run at Bethel University. While at Bethel, Wewers coordinated both sides of the ball, commanding the defense his first season in 2018 and then the offense the next year in 2019.

In 2018 as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, Wewers helped assemble one of the NAIA’s top defenses on the way to the program’s first undefeated regular season in school history. That year Bethel won the 2018 Mid-South Conference Championship and went to the NAIA Playoffs, finishing the season at 10-1. Three linebackers received All-Mid-South Conference honors.

In 2019, Wewers was promoted to associate head coach and switched sides of the ball, becoming the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. That year, Wewers helped mentor a rushing attack that ranked in the top-25 in the NAIA.

A 2011 undergraduate of Tech, Wewers began his collegiate coaching career at Arkansas Tech in 2013 after spending two years coaching in the prep ranks at his high school alma mater, Subiaco Academy.

Wewers would spend four seasons on staff at Tech as a graduate assistant, earning  a pair of master’s degrees in Teaching and Education Leadership. In 2013, Wewers worked with the fullbacks and tight ends and then coached the running backs from 2014-2016.

In his time at Tech, Wewers mentored two All-GAC running backs in Brayden Stringer and Bryan Allen and helped the program to its first winning season in five years with a 9-3 record in 2015. In 2016, Wewers helped the Wonder Boys secure their first postseason appearance and win since 2009 with a victory in the Heart of Texas Bowl.

After his initial time coaching at Tech, Wewers spent one season as the wide receivers coach at GAC rival Ouachita Baptist. In that one season, the Tigers went 9-3 and won the GAC championship.
