LEADING OFF
Less than a week after securing the Great American Conference Regular Season Championship out-right for the first time since 2016, the Arkansas Tech softball team will be the top-seed in the upcoming GAC Tournament and will play No. 8-seed Ouachita Baptist in the opening round on Thursday, May 7.
 
The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. from the Wolverine Athletic Complex in Bentonville.
 
The Golden Suns and Tigers have met 85 times prior to Thursday's GAC Tournament game. The series began in 2003 has been played annually as conference rivals. Tech currently holds a 62-23 lead in the series and swept the three-game series at Ouachita earlier this year.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter the GAC Tournament with an overall record of 40-13 and ended with a 27-6 mark in the GAC to win the regular season championship. With 40 wins to their credit, the Golden Suns have now won 40 or more games in season eight times with their last coming in 2022.
 
Offensively, the Golden Suns enter the GAC Tournament hitting .268 as a team (376-for-1,402) with 238 runs scored, 68 doubles, 10 triples and 41 home runs.
 
Aubree Jones currently leads the team in batting average at .338 (48-for-142). Jones has also provided the most power production thus far with a .613 slugging percentage thanks to seven doubles, one triple and 10 home runs. Jones also paces the team in RBIs with 37 while Anna Winkfield leads the team in runs scored with 42.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 2.05 and have struck out 275 batters in 372.2 innings of work.
 
A total of five pitchers have appeared in the circle for the Golden Suns. Aly White and Ainslee Moore and made starts over Tech's final weekend at Southwestern Oklahoma while Emily Richarde appeared in relief twice. Those three figure to be in the mix throughout the tournament for Tech.
 
White is 13-5 with a 1.54 ERA and has 67 strikeouts in 122.2 innings. Moore is 12-1 with a 2.13 ERA and has 71 strikeouts in 108.1 innings. Richarde is 12-4 with a 1.80 ERA and has 105 strikeouts in 101.1 innings.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her fourth season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones has amassed a 121-86 record at Tech. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 275-165.
 
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
Ouachita Baptist enters the GAC Tournament as the No. 8-seed after posting a 14-19 mark in the GAC. Overall, the Tigers went 20-31 in the regular season.
 
Entering the tournament, the Tigers are hitting .247 as a team (333-for-1,350) with 216 runs scored, 64 doubles, eight triples and 45 home runs.
 
Remington Adams currently leads the team in batting average at .325 (54-for-166). Emily Reed has provided the biggest power threat thus far for the Tigers and leads the team with a .748 slugging percentage thanks to 11 doubles and 19 home runs. Reed also leads the team in RBIs with 48 and in runs scored with 32.
 
In the circle, the Tigers have a team ERA of 3.66 and have struck out 164 batters in 338.2 innings of work.
 
The Tigers used a weekend rotation of Catie Amador and Karley in their final weekend series against Southeastern Oklahoma. Those two figure to be heavily in the mix during the tournament.
 
Amador is 10-13 with two saves and a 2.67 ERA with 98 strikeouts in 157.1 innings. Burrow is 5-4 with a 2.94 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 64.1 innings.
 
Leading the Tigers is Jeff Jackson. He is in his third season as head coach at Ouachita Baptist. In his time at Ouachita, Jackson is 56-100.
