RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Quality pitching and a timely two-out, two-run double in the third inning was the winning formula for the Arkansas Tech baseball team in their 2-0 shutout win against Christian Brothers on Tuesday afternoon.
The pitching was handled by a trio of arms as
Derek Rockett,
Ashton Greenlee and
Eric Woodley all toed the slab. Rockett would make the start and tossed 5.2 innings before making way for Greenlee, who got the game to the ninth for Woodley, who shut the door on his seventh save of the season.
In his start, Rockett allowed two hits, walked three and struck out four. Greenlee would log an unblemished 2.1 innings as he retired all seven batters faced. In the ninth, Woodley got a popout followed by a pair of swinging strikeouts to end the game.
The timely hit in the third inning ended up being all of the meaningful offense in the game as it pushed across both runs.
Drew Vega led the inning off the inning with a double and after the first out was recorded, he stole third to get in better scoring position. Unfortunately, he was picked off at third as the Buccaneers were almost out of the inning unscathed.
Cole Dawson was able to extend the inning after the pickoff with a walk. He then was moved to second on a hit-by-pitch to
Tyler Sardelli.
Kirby Jenkins then laced a ball the other way down the right field line to score both Dawson and Sardelli.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare for their final series at home this coming weekend as they host Southern Nazarene. The series is slated to start on Friday night with a 6 p.m. first-pitch.
