BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Arkansas Tech softball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday as they played a doubleheader on the road at Southwest Baptist. Tech would win the first game, 3-1 and the second game 7-2.
GAME ONE
In the opener, the Golden Suns wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as
Aubree Jones laid down a successful sacrifice bunt to score
Miya Curry, who doubled in the previous at-bat and then promptly stole third to position herself for Jones' RBI sac bunt.
Two innings later, the Golden Suns score a pair of runs to go up 3-0.
Aaliyah Dixon led the inning off with a solo home run, her fourth in the last six games. Later in the inning, Curry doubled again, stole third once more and scored as well. This time, it was
Aly White who drove in Curry on a RBI single.
That RBI to push it to a 3-0 game was a big insurance run for White as she was also the starting pitcher for the Golden Suns. She would surrender the lone run of the game (unearned) for Southwest Baptist in the bottom of the third, but otherwise scattered four hits, walked three and struck out three in her complete game victory.
GAME TWO
The second game was scoreless through the first three innings before the Golden Suns opened scoring on a solo home run from Jones in the top of the fourth. The Bearcats matched that run in their half of the fourth, but Tech jumped back in front in the fifth with three runs.
The first run scored that frame was pinch-runner, Brinley Bancroft, who was on for
Victoria Hughes who singled to leadoff the inning, scoring on a wild pitch. After that, Curry hit a triple to left field, prompting a pitching change.
The Golden Suns greeted that reliever of so kindly with a two-run home run from Jones, her second of the game. Tech would add three more runs to their total in the top of the sixth. Dixon would have a sac fly RBI while Curry's RBI single to drive in
Riley Drake also saw
Sharlee Jackson score on an error by the SBU centerfieler.
The Bearcats would score their second run of the game in the bottom of the seventh to bring the score to its final of 7-2.
