RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team dropped their home conference-opener against Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday by a score of 4-1.
The Golden Suns got out to a 1-0 lead in the match as they claimed the doubles point. Tech would win at top-flight as Elis Gerel and
Rebecca Arnold beat Emilia O'Neill and Milanna Voloshyn, 6-3. Southeastern tied doubles action with a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Natayla Montoya and
Lucia Perez clinched the doubles point for the Golden Suns not long after with a thrilling 6-4 win at flight two.
In singles, the Savage Storm quickly picked up a pair of points on injury retirements by the Golden Suns at flights one and two. Southeastern then captured singles matches five and six in straight sets to bring the match to its completion, 4-1.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a home match on Monday, April 13 against Ouachita Baptist. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. from the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
