RICHARDSON, Texas – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team finished their three-match weekend unblemished as they beat UT Dallas on the road by a score of 4-2.
The win improves the Golden Suns to 6-1 on the season.
In the match against UTD, the Golden Suns dropped the doubles point after narrowly losing No. 3 doubles in the tiebreaker, 7-4. That decided the doubles point after UTD and Tech split the first two flights. The win in doubles action for Tech came at the top flight as the pairing of
Monica Balau and
Elis Gergel won 6-1.
Gergel then tied the match at 1-all as she dominated her No. 2 singles match, 6-1, 6-0. Balau followed with a win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
The Golden Suns then got within a point of clinching with Nayara Alvaraez's 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles. UTD secured their lone singles victory at No. 5 singles.
Shortly thereafter, the Golden Suns clinched the match with their fourth point thanks to a 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles.
Lucia Perez's No. 3 singles match was left unfinished. At the time of clinch, her match was split, 6-3, 3-6.
The Golden Suns will now prepare to make their home debut this coming Friday as they host Central Oklahoma. The match is slated to start at 10 a.m. from the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
