DALLAS, Texas – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team opened their weekend in Dallas with a 4-1 win over Southwest Baptist.
Unlike most dual matches, singles action was played first between the Golden Suns and Bearcats. The match was also played to clinch and as a result, doubles were not played as the Golden Suns picked up wins at flights two, three, four and six.
Flight six was a default win as the Bearcats were down to five in their lineup due to injury.
The win at No. 3 singles saw
Lucia Perez win 6-3, 6-4. Current GAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week,
Elis Gergel won her No. 2 singles match, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 (3). The final match to come to completion was
Rebecca Arnold's at No. 4. She would win 6-0, 6-0.
Natalya Montoya was up in her No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 3-0, but it was left unfinished as the match was clinched.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a Sunday afternoon matinee against UT Dallas. The match is scheduled to start at Noon.
