MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team completed their second conference series sweep on Friday as they beat Arkansas-Monticello, 6-1 in the series finale.
The Golden Suns got out to a quick start as they scored four runs on five hits in the top of the first inning.
Anna Winkfield led that frame off with a bang as she homered to left.
Miya Curry and
Aubree Jones then singled in succession.
Caroline Wilhelm drove them both in in the next at-bat with a single to left-centerfield.
That prompted a quick pitching change for the Cotton Blossoms. Later in the inning, the Golden Suns scored their fourth run of the frame on an Aailyah Dixon RBI single to center. The Cotton Blossoms came back in their half of the first and eventually got a leadoff double home on an attempted double steal with runners on the corners.
The Cotton Blossoms would not score again in the game as
Emily Richarde came on in relief to start the second inning. Richarde would pitch the final 6.0 innings, scattering two hits, walking three and striking out six.
The Golden Suns would get two more runs in the game with both being solo home runs by
Aly White. The first of those came in the fourth, while the second came in the sixth.
Tech will now prepare to play their first midweek doubleheader of the year this coming Tuesday. The Golden Suns are scheduled to travel to Cleveland, Mississippi to take on Delta State. The doubleheader is stated to start at 2 p.m.
