FORT SMITH, Ark. – Arkansas Tech senior golfer
Ellen Spigner captured her third medalist title this season as she bested the field of 75 golfers at the Hardscrabble Invitational with a five-over (215). As a team, Arkansas Tech finished runner-up among the 14-team field.
In winning her third tournament of the season, Spigner is now tied for second for the most individual tournament victories. Spigner now also has four career tournament wins, tying her for third-most in program history.
At the Hardscrabble Invitational, Spigner was five shots clear of the runner-up.
After the first round on Monday, Spigner was in second place at three-over (73) and two shots back of teammate,
Jaylee Castro, who shot a one-over (71). By the end of Monday, Spigner was alone atop the leaderboard as she shot a two-under (68) in the second round. She was the only golfer to finish in the red in either round on Monday.
On Tuesday, Spigner was able to maintain her spot atop the leaderboard as she carded a four-over (74).
Helping the Golden Suns finish runner-up was the aforementioned Castro and Jessie Jane Norman. Both would finish in the top-10 with Castro finishing fourth at 14-over and Norman tied for sixth at 19-over.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their final tournament of the regular season, the Spring Region Preview. That three-day event is scheduled to start on Sunday, April 5 and run through Tuesday, April 7.
