JOPLIN, Mo. – The Arkansas Tech women's golf team made their 2026-27 debut this week at the Missouri Southern Women's Golf Fall Invitational and finished runner-up among the nine-team field. Leading the charge for the Golden Suns was fourth-year golfer
Jaylee Castro as she was the individual medalist for the tournament.
OFFICIAL RESULTS
The individual win was the first in the career for Castro, who is coming off a breakout third year as a Golden Sun in which she was a First Team All-GAC honoree as well as an all-region selection.
In the first round on Monday, Castro shot one-under (71) and was in fourth place. She would shoot one-over (73) in the second and final round on Tuesday to finish even-par for the tournament. Her round two score was tied for the third-lowest in the field, allowing her to climb to the top of the individual leaderboard.
Overall, Castro led the field in par-3 scoring as she was three-under across all par-3 holes. She also tied for the lead in birdies made with eight and found success on the par-5 holes, going two-under.
Newcomers
Chloe Freville and
Presley Stam were next behind Castro and finished top-10 in their first collegiate tournament action with both finishing tied for eighth at nine-over (153). Freville would have rounds of three-over (75) and six-over (78) while Stam had rounds of four-over (76) and five-over (77).
The Golden Suns will now prepare for the Grace Shin Invitational. That event, hosted by Central Oklahoma, is scheduled to take place October 5-6 at Golf Club of Edmond in Edmond, Okla.
