Wonder Boys handle Reddies in midweek game, 16-2

Box Score RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech baseball team picked up their fourth midweek win of the season on Tuesday as they beat Henderson State, 16-2 in seven innings.

The Wonder Boys initially fell behind in the game, 1-0, on a two-out solo home run by Henderson State in the top of the first. In the bottom of the frame, however, the Wonder Boys scored six runs to grab the lead and control of the game.

Cole Dawson got things going for Tech as he reached first base with one out on a hit-by-pitch. Tyler Sardelli then drove in Dawson on a two-run home run out to right field. The next three batter reached for Tech as Derek Rockett got an infield single off the pitcher, Kirby Jenkins then got a hit-by-a-pitch followed by a single to shallow right field by Zack Burrow.

The Wonder Boys then drew four-straight based loaded walks to force home four runs, making it 6-1.

Tech would go on to score at least one run in their next five trips to the plate. They would score one in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to account for their 16 runs.

Jenkins was responsible for the run in the second on a single through the left side. Sardelli had a RBI in the third while Tommy Caya scored an unearned run that frame as well. Luke Caussey belted an opposite field home run for the lone run in the fourth.

In the fifth, Jenkins doubled in a run while Jackson Crain singled through the right side for a RBI. In the sixth, Levi Martin hit a pinch-hit three-run home run. Later that inning, David Ossana, also pinch-hitting, drew a bases loaded walk.

All of that run support was for starting pitcher, Derek Rockett. He would pick up the win as he pitched 5.0 innings with just four hits, two runs allowed, no walks and four strikeouts. Zach Moss and Luke Dickson pitched the final two innings with each pitching one frame scoreless.

The Wonder Boys will now prepare to hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at Southeastern Oklahoma. The three-game set is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. pm Friday, March 13.
