Golden Suns fall to No. 24 Missouri Southern, beat St. Edward’s

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team split their second day of action at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville on Saturday with a 7-1 loss to No. 24-ranked Missouri Southern and a 4-3 win over St. Edward's.

MISSOURI SOUTHERN
The Golden Suns got down early against No. 24-ranked Missouri Southern as the Lions had a 6-0 lead through three innings. They would score three runs in the top of the first, one in the second and two in the third.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Suns were able to get on the scoreboard with their lone run of the game. That run was a RBI single by Sharlee Jackson that scored Aly White, who singled earlier in the inning.

The Lions tacked on a run in the fifth to bring the score to its final of 7-1.

Despite allowing seven runs on eight hits overall, the Golden Suns got a stellar relief pitching effort from Ainslee Moore. She would pitch the final 4.2 innings and held the Lions to just two hits and struck out seven. Her lone blemish was the run allowed in the fifth.

ST. EDWARD'S
In their second game of the day, the Golden Suns were the ones to jump out to an early lead and did so with a bang thanks to a solo home run to right field by Aaliyah Dixon. In the third, Tech got another big fly, this time a three-run shot off the bat of Aubree Jones.

St. Edward's would mount a comeback effort and pulled within a run after scoring a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.

That would be as far as the rally would go, however, as Emily Richarde came on and allowed just one baserunner over the final two innings while striking out three to lock down her first save with the Golden Suns.

UP NEXT
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their final non-conference weekend of the season as they will return to Branson and take part in the D2 Branson Battle. They will play four games with contests against Quincy and Nebraska-Kearney on Friday, February 13 and Pittsburg State and Truman State on Saturday, February 14
