RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech softball team lost both ends of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader at home against No. 10-ranked Southern Arkansas. SAU would win the first game, 12-6, and the second game, 12-0.
GAME ONE
In the opener, SAU scored a single run in the top of the first and added two more in top of the third to go up 3-0. The Golden Suns then powered their way into the lead in their half of the fourth inning on a grand slam from
Aubree Jones.
Caroline Wilhelm led that inning off with a single down the left field line. After the first out was recorded, the Golden Suns loaded the bases thanks to a walk to
Miya Curry and a bunt single from
Aaliyah Dixon. SAU then got a force out at home for the second out and were almost out of the inning unscathed, but Jones was able to come up with the clutch hit.
The lead did not last long for the Golden Suns as SAU cashed in a leadoff double in the next half inning to tie the score at four-all.
An inning later, the Muleriders broke the game open with six runs in the top of the sixth to go up 10-4. The Golden Suns got two of those runs back in their half of the sixth on a two-run homer from Dixon.
SAU tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh to push the score to its final of 12-6.
GAME TWO
SAU jumped out to an early lead with three runs in each of the first two innings. The three runs in the first were all unearned, but the momentum was squarely in favor of SAU.
The Muleirders would go on to score a run in the fifth and five in the seventh while holding the Golden Suns scoreless on two hits.
