DURANT, Okla. – The Arkansas Tech football team played its second-straight game on the road on Saturday, playing at Southeastern Oklahoma. The Wonder Boys would fall to Southeastern by a score of 35-10.
The first quarter went without any points being scored as the Wonder Boys and Savage Storm's defenses forced punts on the first six combined possessions. Tech was the first to crack the scoreboard, doing so on a 24-yard field goal from
Fernando Ventura at the 10:01 mark of the second quarter.
Southeastern responded on their ensuing drive and scored the game's first touchdown to take a 7-3 lead with 6:06 left on the second quarter clock. Shortly after that, the Savage Storm forced a three-and-out by Tech and then hit a big rush from just outside midfield to go up 14-3.
After winning the toss and electing to defer to the second half, Southeastern got the first possession of the second half and converted it to a touchdown to go up 21-3.
The Wonder Boys had a quick response on their next possession and scored on a big play of their own as
Carter Hensley connected with
Omyry Hickson for a 52-yard passing touchdown. The momentum started to shift to the Wonder Boys as the Tech defense forced a turnover on downs in their own redzone on Southeastern's next possession.
Getting ball at their own 14-yardline to start the drive, the Wonder Boys were able to get to the Southeastern redzone on a 60-yard catch and run by
Austin Marshall on 3
rd-and-2. The drive unfortunately stalled from there, forcing the Wonder Boys to attempt a 35-yard field goal to make it a one-score game. The kick missed wide to the right.
The Savage Storm then seized the momentum and scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to bring the score to its final of 35-10.
The Wonder Boys will now prepare to return home for the first of two-straight at Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium. That initial game will be Homecoming against East Central on Saturday, October 10. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. and Party at the Plaza Tailgating starts at Noon.
