WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Riding their longest winning streak since the 2020-21 season, the Arkansas Tech women's basketball team had their seven-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday night at Southwestern Oklahoma as they lost 84-56.
Uncharacteristic cold shooting hindered the Golden Suns' efforts against the Lady Bulldogs and that unfortunate outcome started early as Tech was held to just eight points on 3-of-14 shooting in the first quarter. Conversely, the Lady Bulldogs came out on fire in the opening period, scoring 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting overall.
The Lady Bulldogs continued the sizzling start into the second quarter and by halftime had taken a commanding 51-21 lead.
The Golden Suns would find themselves in the third quarter and make 9-of-16 shots from the field with five of those makes coming from three-point range. Unfortunately, that offensive resurgence did little to cut into the SWOSU lead as the Lady Bulldogs were able to maintain a solid offensive attack and a sizable lead.
Both teams struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs' early lead would not come into question.
The Golden Suns would have two players score in double figures with
Logan Young leading the way with 12 points. One point back of Young was
AbbiGrace Cunningham as she had 11 points. Nine of her points came from beyond the arc as she made a trio of three-pointers.
The Golden Suns will now look to bounce back in less than two days' time as they will play a road game at No. 24-ranked Northwestern Oklahoma on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
