Golden Suns beat UAM 3-0 to move to 3-0 in GAC play

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team swept by Arkansas-Monticello, 3-0, on Thursday night in the team's home-opener inside Tucker Coliseum.
 
The Golden Suns dominated just about every facet of the match from the opening serve en route to the sweep. In the first set, the Golden Suns would race out to a 6-0 lead and then a 14-1 lead before winning, 25-6. Tech would limit UAM to just three kills while they had 16.
 
The score drew closer in the second set, but the Golden Suns were still able to comfortably win, 25-16. The same was the case in the third set as UAM hung with the Golden Suns until about the middle of the set. Leading 13-11, Tech scored five-straight points to go up 18-11.
 
The Cotton Blossoms did have a rally in them and got within three points of the Tech lead, 20-17, but the Golden Suns scored three-straight point to give them back a comfortable lead and eventually closed out the set with a 25-20 win.
 
As a team, the Golden Suns totaled 40 kills, doubling the total of UAM. Tech also committed just 10 attack errors in 96 total attempts for an attack percentage of .313.
 
Individually, 16 Golden Suns saw action in the match and eight had at least one kill. Savannah Meyer led the way with 12 kills. She would commit just one error and had 18 total attempts for an eye-popping percentage of .611. Henley Hooks and Erika Hernandez were next in kills with each having eight. Between the two, they committed just one attack error in 30 attempts.
 
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their next match this coming Tuesday, September 30. It will be a home match against Ouachita Baptist. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
