ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team is off to a 1-0 start in Great American Conference play and even on their overall record at 4-4 thanks to a 3-0 shutout sweep of Henderson State on the road on Tuesday night.
In their match against the Reddies, the Golden Suns were overwhelmingly dominant, more than doubling the kill total (51-to-25) and having an attack percentage almost .200 points higher (.315-to-.124).
The 51 kills for the Golden Suns are a single-match high in three-set matches and was one shy of their overall single-match high. The Golden Suns were also extremely efficient in the match as they had an assist on 48 of their 51 kills while hitting over .300.
Henley Hooks led the way for Tech in terms of kills with 16 kills. It was the fourth match this season that Hooks has had double-digit kills. Hooks would be the only Golden Suns with double-digit kills, but
Savannah Meyer and
Amy Hernandez were right there with nine kills each.
Millie Allgood and
Erika Hernandez were next with seven while
Carson Thiebaud had three to round out attacking for Tech.
Aspen Jankowski and Emma Kizer split time at setter with Jankowski having 21 and Kizer with 17. Allgood led the way in digs with a season-high 19, followed by 13 from libero,
Samantha Wojtowicz.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for a return trip to Arkadelphia this weekend as they will jump back into their non-conference schedule and play three matches at the Bettye Wallace Classic, hosted by Henderson State. The Golden Suns are scheduled to take on Drury on Friday, September 19 and Quincy and Missouri Southern on Saturday, September 20.
