FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team will remain on the road this weekend for a three-game series at Henderson State. The Golden Suns will be looking to get back to their winning ways after having their eight-game winning streak snapped at No. 11 Rogers State earlier this week.
 
The series is scheduled to begin with a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. The finale is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Monday.
 
The Golden Suns and Reddies have met 91 times historically in a series that started in 2003. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 46-45 lead.
 
The two teams met four times last season with the weekend series being played a neutral site in Conway and the fourth game at the GAC Tournament in Bentonville. The Golden Suns would win the weekend series, 2-1 and then won the tournament game to go 3-1 against HSU last year.
 
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter the weekend series at Henderson State with an overall record of 22-17 and a 12-8 mark in the GAC. Most-recently, the Golden Suns dropped both ends of their road doubleheader at No. 11 Rogers State this past Tuesday.
 
Entering play, the Golden Suns are hitting .280 as a team (285-for-1,018) with 178 runs scored, 62 doubles, eight triples and 14 home runs.
 
Kacie Gibbins currently leads the team in batting average at .345 (41-for-119). Additionally, Gibbins is one of six players that have double-digit RBIs and one of six with double-digit runs scored. Her 21 RBIs are third on the team behind Anna Winkfield's 22 and Caroline Wilhelm's 29. In terms of runs scored, Gibbins' 22 runs are tied for second with Sadie Turner behind Maycie Hardy's 28
 
Turner has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .509 thanks to four doubles and a team-high six home runs.
 
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.24 and have struck out 225 batters in 257.0 innings of work.
 
Bradi Basler, Alexis Findley and Aly White have appeared in at least 17 games and made at least six starts. Findley has the most starts with 20, followed by Basler with 11 and White with six. Aidan Dayberry has also made two starts and has seven other appearances in relief. Ainslee Moore has made two relief appearances for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
 
Findley is currently 9-7 and has posted a 2.63 ERA and struck out 117 in 112.0 innings of work. Basler is 6-5 with a 4.88 ERA and has 51 strikeouts in 51.2 innings. White is 5-3 with a 2.63 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 69.1 innings.
 
Leading the Golden Suns is Jordon Jones. In her third season as head coach of the Golden Suns, Jones has amassed a 76-59 record at Tech and twice led the team to the conference tournament. Prior to coming to Tech, Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 230-138.
 
SCOUTING HENDERSON STATE
Henderson State is 17-19 overall and are 5-15 in GAC play. The Reddies are coming off a weekend series at home against nationally-ranked SAU where they were swept. Most-recently, HSU split a mid-week doubleheader on the road at Texas A&M-Texarkana, winning the second game 8-3.
 
Entering play against Tech, the Reddies are hitting .261 as a team (255-for-978) with 147 runs scored, 54 doubles, five triples and 19 home runs.
 
Hilary Akers currently leads the team in batting average at .378 (45-for-119). Akers is also pacing the club in RBIs with 30 and is second in runs scored (21) and slugging percentage (.605). Macy Hoskins leads the team in slugging percentage at .650 thanks to 11 doubles, a triple and and six home runs.
 
Five Reddies have driven in double-digit runs while four Reddies have scored double-digit runs.
 
In the circle, the Reddies have a team ERA of 2.92 and have struck out 170 batters in 249.0 innings of work.
 
The Reddies have used five pitchers in starting roles but have relied mostly on Jersey Cabana, Brooke Johnson and Makenna Keeton. All three have made at least eight starts with Cabana making the most with 12 starts.
 
Cabana is 7-3 with a 2.26 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 62.0 innings. Johnson is 3-5 with a 3.00 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 63.0 innings. Keeton is 3-6 with a save and a 3.33 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 54.2 innings.
 
Leading the Reddies is Joel Worthington, who is in his first season as head coach at Henderson State and his fifth overall. In his time at Henderson, Worthington is 17-19 and is 123-80 overall.
