FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is at home this weekend for a three-game series against Southern Nazarene. The Golden Suns will be looking to keep the momentum going from their recent 2-0 shutout win over No. 10-ranked Harding this past Tuesday.
The series with Southern Nazarene is scheduled to begin with a single game on Friday starting at 5 p.m. The following day, the series will conclude with a doubleheader starting at Noon.
The Golden Suns and Crimson Storm have met 47 times historically in a series that started in 2013. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 33-14 lead.
The two teams met three times last season with the weekend series being played at SNU. The Golden Suns would lose the weekend series, 2-1.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter the weekend series at home against Southern Nazarene with an overall record of 23-20 and a 13-11 mark in the GAC. This past weekend, the Golden Suns were swept on the road at Henderson State. Most-recently, the Golden Suns won their home mid-week game against No. 10 Harding this past Tuesday.
Entering play, the Golden Suns are hitting .273 as a team (307-for-1,123) with 185 runs scored, 70 doubles, eight triples and 14 home runs.
Kacie Gibbins currently leads the team in batting average at .331 (44-for-133). Additionally,
Gibbins is one of six players that have double-digit RBIs and one of seven with double-digit runs scored. Her 22 RBIs are third on the team behind
Anna Winkfield's 24 and
Caroline Wilhelm's 29. In terms of runs scored,
Gibbins' 22 runs are tied for second with
Sadie Turner behind
Maycie Hardy's 28
Turner has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .500 thanks to six doubles and a team-high six home runs.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.18 and have struck out 248 batters in 284.2 innings of work.
Bradi Basler,
Alexis Findley and
Aly White have appeared in at least 18 games and made at least seven starts.
Findley has the most starts with 22, followed by
Basler with 12 and
White with seven.
Aidan Dayberry has also made two starts and has eight other appearances in relief.
Ainslee Moore has made two relief appearances for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
Findley is currently 10-8 and has posted a 2.55 ERA and struck out 130 in 123.1 innings of work.
Basler is 6-5 with a 5.12 ERA and has 51 strikeouts in 52.0 innings.
White is 5-5 with a 2.34 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 83.2 innings.
Leading the Golden Suns is
Jordon Jones. In her third season as head coach of the Golden Suns,
Jones has amassed a 77-62 record at Tech and twice led the team to the conference tournament. Prior to coming to Tech,
Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 231-141.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
Southern Nazarene enters play against Tech with a 25-15 overall record and are 14-9 in GAC play. The Crimson Storm are coming off a weekend series at home against East Central. They would lose the series but managed to salvage the final game.
Entering play against Tech, the Crimson Storm are hitting .319 as a team (340-for-1,065) with 238 runs scored, 75 doubles, 11 triples and 22 home runs.
Liana Heshiki currently leads the team in batting average at .412 (40-for-97). She is also second on the team in slugging at .649.
Hailey Evans is pacing the club in RBIs with 37 and slugging percentage at .661 thanks to 10 doubles, a triple and eight home runs.
Seven Crimson Storm have driven in double-digit runs while 10 Crimson Storm have scored double-digit runs.
In the circle, the Crimson Storm have a team ERA of 3.58 and have struck out 212 batters in 258.0 innings of work.
The Crimson Storm have used seven pitchers in starting roles but have relied mostly on
Janie Worthington and
Olivia Hernandez. Both have made 13 starts.
Worthington is 7-4 with a 2.99 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 79.2 innings.
Hernandez is 3-3 with a 3.52 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 49.2 innings.
Leading the Crimson Storm is
Brian Madden, who is in his sixth season as head coach at Southern Nazarene. In his time at SNU,
Madden is 150-112.
