ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Sophomore
Nabilah Dunn won her No. 5 singles match break a three-all tie to clinch the overall match for the Arkansas Tech women's tennis team in their match against Collin College on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Suns fell behind in the match 1-0 after Collin College won the doubles point. Not long into singles play, however, Tech evened the match at one apiece as
Elis Gergel won her No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-1.
The next two singles match decisions were split to keep the match tied, this time at two-all.
Top-flight singles was next to be completed and went in favor of Collin College in three sets.
Facing potential clinch against them, the Golden Suns knotted the match at three-all as
Melanie Griffiths won her No. 6 singles match, 6-1, 6-3.
That set the stage for the match to come down to Dunn at No. 5.
After dropping the first set 5-7, Dunn forced a tiebreaking set in emphatic fashion as she won set two, 6-1. In the tie-breaker, Dunn won 6-3.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their next match, a non-conference match on the road at Henderson State. That match is slated for a 2 p.m. start on Tuesday, March 11.
