FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team is set to play its first conference series of the season at home this coming weekend as they will be taking on Arkansas-Monticello.
The three-game series is slated to begin with a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3 p.m. It will then conclude with a single game on Saturday starting at noon.
The Golden Suns and Cotton Blossoms have met 76 times historically in a series that started in 2004. In terms of the all-time series record, UAM holds a 39-37 lead over Tech.
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Monticello. UAM swept the conference series.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter this weekend at home against Arkansas-Monticello with an overall record of 10-11 overall and 2-4 in conference play. They are coming off being swept in a series at Southern Arkansas.
Entering play this weekend, the Golden Suns are hitting .266 as a team (144-for-542) with 101 runs scored, 30 doubles, three triples and four home runs.
Savannah Snow currently leads the team in batting average at .359 (23-for-64).
Sadie Turner has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .464 thanks to four doubles and a home run.
Kacie Gibbins and
Caroline Wilhelm pace the team in RBIs with 14.
Anna Winkfield and
Lexi Gorniak are the other Golden Suns with double-digit RBIs with 11 and 10, respectively.
Gibbins is tied for the most extra-base hits on the team with
Maycie Hardy at six. All six of
Gibbins' extra-base hits are doubles while
Hardy has five doubles and a home run.
Hardy also leads the team in runs scored with 19.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.72 and have struck out 128 batters in 135.1 innings of work.
Bradi Basler,
Alexis Findley and
Aly White have appeared in at least nine games and made at least one start.
Findley has the most starts with 12, followed by
Basler with eight and
White with one.
Aidan Dayberry and
Ainslee Moore have also made relief appearances for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
Findley is currently 5-5 and has posted a 2.89 ERA and struck out 70 in 63.0 innings of work.
Basler is 3-4 with a 6.39 ERA and has 29 strikeouts in 30.2 innings.
White is 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 32.0 innings.
Leading the Golden Suns is
Jordon Jones. In her third season as head coach of the Golden Suns,
Jones has amassed a 64-56 record at Tech and twice led the team to the conference tournament. Prior to coming to Tech,
Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 218-135.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
Arkansas-Monticello is 7-11 overall and are 2-4 in GAC play. The Cotton Blossoms are coming off a series win at home against Henderson State this past weekend. In that series, UAM won the first game and the rubber game.
Entering play against Tech, the Cotton Blossoms are hitting .242 as a team (107-for-443) with 55 runs scored, 19 doubles, no triples and nine home runs.
Aubree Goodnight currently leads the team in batting average at .359 (14-for-39).
Jadyn Hart leads the team in slugging percentage at .553 thanks to four doubles and two home runs.
Hart also leads the team in RBIs with 11.
Dacia Sexton leads the team in runs scored with 10.
In the circle, the Cotton Blossoms have a team ERA of 5.37 and have struck out 71 batters in 116.0 innings of work.
Four pitchers have started a game for the Cotton Blossoms with all four of those making at least three starts.
Makenzie Martin has made the most starts thus far with six and has appeared in 11 games overall. She is 1-6 with a save and a 4.86 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 36.0 innings.
Jadyn Barger has made the second-most starts with five and has appeared in eight games overall. She is 2-0 with a 2.88 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.
Leading the Cotton Blossoms is
Kyle Lem, who is in his seventh season as head coach at Arkansas-Monticello. In his time at UAM,
Lem is 122-158.
