FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech softball team remains on the road this weekend and will play at Southeastern Oklahoma in a Great American Conference matchup.
The three-game series is slated to begin with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. It will then conclude with a single game on Sunday starting at noon.
The Golden Suns and Savage Storm have met 55 times historically in a series that started in 2009. In terms of the all-time series record, Tech holds a 28-27 lead over SE.
The two teams met three times last season with a three-game series being played in Russellville. Tech swept the conference series.
TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns enter the weekend series on the road at Southeastern Oklahoma with an overall record of 12-14 overall and a 4-7 mark in conference play. They are coming off a doubleheader loss at Harding this past Tuesday.
Entering play this weekend, the Golden Suns are hitting .264 as a team (176-for-666) with 120 runs scored, 38 doubles, three triples and six home runs.
Savannah Snow currently leads the team in batting average at .333 (25-for-75).
Anna Winkfield has the highest slugging percentage on the team at .424 thanks to four doubles, a triple and a home run.
Winkfield is one of four players that have double-digit RBIs.
Caroline Wilhelm and
Kacie Gibbins are currently tied in that category with 17.
Gibbins is tied for the most extra-base hits on the team with
Maycie Hardy at seven. Both have six doubles and a home run.
Hardy also leads the team in runs scored with 21.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a team ERA of 3.68 and have struck out 157 batters in 167.1 innings of work.
Bradi Basler,
Alexis Findley and
Aly White have appeared in at least 11 games and made at least one start.
Findley has the most starts with 14, followed by
Basler with nine and
White with two.
Aidan Dayberry has also made one start, but has had five other appearances in relief.
Ainslee Moore has made two relief appearances for Tech as part of their five-person pitching staff.
Findley is currently 6-6 and has posted a 2.89 ERA and struck out 80 in 75.0 innings of work.
Basler is 4-4 with a 5.50 ERA and has 36 strikeouts in 35.2 innings.
White is 2-2 with a 3.33 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 42.0 innings.
Leading the Golden Suns is
Jordon Jones. In her third season as head coach of the Golden Suns,
Jones has amassed a 66-56 record at Tech and twice led the team to the conference tournament. Prior to coming to Tech,
Jones had head coaching stops at the NAIA level at Central Baptist in Conway and MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas. Overall, her career record is 220-135.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA
Southeastern Oklahoma is 13-11 overall and are 6-5 in GAC play. The Savage Storm have won six-straight games and are an unblemished 7-0 at home. This past weekend, Southeastern swept their home series with Northwestern Oklahoma and took both games of their Tuesday doubleheader at home against East Central.
Entering play against Tech, the Savage Storm are hitting .303 as a team (206-for-679) with 119 runs scored, 39 doubles, no triples and 23 home runs.
India McMurray currently leads the team in batting average at .397 (25-for-63) and is pacing the club in slugging percentage at .810 thanks to two doubles and eight home runs.
McMurray also leads the team in RBIs with 21.
Sage Harlow and
Sabetha Sands lead the team in runs scored with 16 apiece.
In the circle, the Savage Storm have a team ERA of 4.15 and have struck out 152 batters in 158.2 innings of work.
Three pitchers have started at least five games for the Savage Storm among their five-person pitching staff.
Trinity Oden has made the most starts thus far with 10, while
Emily Simmons is right behind with eight.
Sheyenne Cheek is the other prominent starter for Southeastern with five starts.
Oden is 3-3 with a 3.74 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.
Simmons is 8-4 with two saves and a 3.84 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 62.0 innings.
Cheek is 0-4 with a 6.46 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 21.2 innings.
Leading the Savage Storm is
Mackenzie Sher, who is in her third season as head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma and her seventh overall. In her time at SE,
Sher is 72-66 and is 142-157 overall.
