ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team took on their third nationally-ranked opponent in the last four matches played on Saturday as they went up against No. 17-ranked Nebraska Kearney at a neutral site at the Ward Tennis Center in Arkadelphia.
The Golden Suns would fall to the Lopers, 7-0.
In doubles action, the Golden Suns won at least two games in all three matches. Flight two doubles pairing of
Nabilah Dunn and
Natalya Montoya won three games in their match while the flight three team of
Meaghan Butler and
Maria Krite did the same.
In singles play, only flight one saw the Lopers hold their Tech counterpart without a game win. In flight two singles,
Elis Gergel split sets with No. 35-ranked singles player, Ranavio Narindra (2-6, 6-2) and then dropped the tiebreaker, 10-5. That was the only flight in which the Golden Suns took a set.
Butler at No. 4 singles nearly claimed the first set of her match, but lost out in the tiebreaker (7-0).
The Golden Suns will now prepare to remain on the road and will play another neutral site match, this time against Division I, Murray State. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. in Searcy.
